Alex Belyaev, VP of Engineering, discusses his experience at Clausematch

Alex Belyaev is the VP of Engineering at Clausematch. We recently sat down with Alex to learn more about his role at Clausematch.

What is your role at Clausematch and what does it entail?

At Clausematch, I started as a back-end engineer, building the core functionalities of our platform: the policy management editor, API reports, document upload, export, and integrations. Then I transitioned to a Team Lead role that entailed managing a cross-functional team to deliver value to our customers end-to-end as a team. I worked on the Team's capacity and velocity to deliver the best value in the shortest possible time period.

Later on, I stepped up to lead the production team. It was a big challenge to manage all our clients across the globe with a team of three people and simultaneously deliver all the incremental updates of our product. The team was established from scratch for these purposes.

This cutting-edge role involved communication with clients and internally with the product and engineering teams.

What were you doing before joining the Clausematch team?

Previously, I was working as Tech Lead at T-Systems. It is a service provider for information technologies and digital transformation that operates internationally. My last project there was LogiWeb. We developed a system for logistics companies to track telematic events from trucks.

Why did you decide to join Clausematch?

My former colleagues from T-Systems approached me with this offer to join a startup company to develop a very interesting and promising product, almost from the initial version. I saw the potential of that idea, spoke to the team, and even attended the team retreat. I felt the difference between working in-house for a software company and an outsourced service provider, and decided to be part of that ambitious project to develop solutions for the financial services industry.

What has been one of your most memorable moments at Clausematch?

My initial time with Clausematch, those first 1-2 years, when the startup spirit and atmosphere were so strong! We had such a unique family-like experience. All the meet-ups with the founders and the team get-togethers were really like they show in all those movies about tech startups and those times are truly unforgettable.

What advice would you give to a future Clausematch employee?

Work hard and play hard. And if you are looking for challenges, you are in the right place. There are multiple ways to move forward, so be open-minded, because everyone is trying to do their best and lead the company to success.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I enjoy playing tennis, wakeboarding, skiing, and traveling. I like taking photos with a drone and making amazing footage from a birds-eye-view.

If you could go anywhere, where would you go?

I would like to travel to a different galaxy, like Elon Musk. Or at least to Kenya to Giraffe Manor. One of the most fascinating things about Giraffe Manor is its resident herd of Rothschild’s giraffes who may visit morning and evening, poking their long necks into the windows in the hope of a treat, before retreating to their forest sanctuary.
